A little update

I wanted to write a quick update as I have not been blogging much in the last weeks. I finally submitted my essay and artefact for module one last week. I struggled so much to create my artefact. Writing the essay didn't come quickly either, but it was more natural for me. This was interesting because I ordinarily consider myself more comfortable creating rather than theorising.  

One of the topics I wrote about in my essay was perfectionism, and upon reflection, my perfectionistic traits were holding me back from producing my artefact. I found an issue with every idea I came up with until I finally forced myself to sit down and create something. As an artist and a ballet dancer, I find it challenging to be fully happy or satisfied with my work. This works in my favour in ballet as I’m compelled to always strive for improvement. It proved challenging academically because I was constantly overthinking and re-editing my work until the last minute before the deadline. 

Perhaps this was a ‘learning within learning’ for me, that sometimes my perfectionistic traits hold me back as an artist. Something to work on!
